Drive axle

2021-09-09

       1. What is the drive axle

The half shaft is a solid shaft that transmits torque between the differential and the drive wheels. The inner end is generally connected to the half shaft gear through a spline, and the outer end is connected to the hub. The semi-axles commonly used in modern cars are classified into full-floating and semi-floating according to their different supporting types.

Second, the role of the drive half shaft

The semi-axle is an important part in the rear axle assembly of a car, which makes the driving wheel rotate to push the car forward or backward. Obviously, when the half shaft is damaged (mostly broken), the driving wheels of the car lose power and cannot move.

       3. Common faults of driving half shaft

       1). Driving jitter.

2). Abnormal noise of the ball cage (some cars do not have a separate ball cage, only the half shaft assembly can be replaced).

3). The middle bridge bearing of the half shaft is damaged.

4). The half shaft falls off and the spline is broken.

       4. How does Miche.com detect the drive axle shaft

For the inspection of the half shaft, the inspection standards are: firm connection, no deformation, no cracks or damage to the dust cover of the ball cage. Testing equipment and tools: lifts, flashlights, crowbars, etc. Inspection process: (use a lift to lift the vehicle), use a crowbar to check that the axle shaft is firmly connected, without deformation or looseness, and then use a flashlight to check that the dust cover of the ball cage is not broken.
